Folks,

Anyone have experience of both Shiftless and Karo baffles, and can comment on the difference in use between them.

Cheers,

Stephen

Hi Stephan,

I have had both, and each has it's own unique set of challenges and benefits.

I started with Karo baffles, Revelation Quilts 30 and a 10 with 3 extra ounces. Where these quilts really shined was in the flexibility, as you have the ability move the down around a bit and accommodate temp swings on longer hikes. When the temps dropped, I was able to spend a few minutes and "plump up" the center of the quilt and on warmer nights you could work some of the down off to the sides. I originally had a WM Mega Lite that allowed you to move down off the top to the bottom depending on temps so this was a natural direction for me. However for others, I have heard of some that were not fond of migrating down and found themselves with cold spots at times.

Enter Enigma, both 30 Extra long and a new 0 Extra Long/wide with 950 fill and cuben Baffles, I find that I tend to sleep warmer in these quilts with less effort. You do lose some of the flexibility however they are extremely user friendly. This will be nice after long 20-30 mile days on the trail. Simply throw it down and jump underneath BOOM off to sleep with the simplicity of a sleeping bag.

These are just my top level thoughts, If you have direct questions please feel free to shoot me a PM. Either way Tim is awesome to work with and his products are always top notch.

YMMV

I think in one you can shift the down , the other not so much. I have only the karo baffles.

But Im pointing out that the new baffle design as I understand it is such that you CAN shift more down to your feet, thats where the vertical tubes go to. I dont have any experience with the new design yet though. It just doesnt shift by itself, unintentionally to your sides, leaving you cold on top.

There are definitely advantages to being able to move down. But it seems its a bit more trouble than many users want to fool with.

Much appreciate the replies folks.

Not having the down moving as much would be a major plus for me.

I have a Rev 30 with the new baffle system on the way to test out.
