I've heard that despite the crappy snow year we've had in New Mexico, that Colorado was actually OK. That means normal snow levels in the mountains, and the idea of a mid-June Colorado Trail thru hike might be completely batty. I was thinking Denver – Durango just for logistics but it sounds like that would allow the snow in the San Juans more time to melt, too…. But there still could be a lot by July 1 or so.

Does anyone have a resource to point me to for monitoring the melt?

Is anyone thinking of going out on the CT by mid-June? Just curious…. thanks!

Here's the SNOTEL Colorado snowpack reports, by major river basin:

As of today, you'll see that South Platte is at 140% of normal, Arkansas is at 101%, Gunnison is at 108%, Rio Grande is at 85%, and Dolores is at 90%. Although you're likely to have a snowier start to the CT, the first few segments are at lower altitude and will melt earlier. The later segments are among the highest, but there's a good chance that they will have cleared by the time you get there.
