My setup is two 0.9 L and one 2L Evernew bladder. The two small units are for carrying clean water and the large one is for filtering dirty water, usually in camp. My 2L broke and I am wondering if there is a good reason to buy these instead of the newer Sawyer version? I definitely like these being see through and having an attached cap, but I can get two Sawyers for half the price of one Evernew 2L. Since the Evernew still seem to be in high demand, I just wonder why. Any opinions out there?

Well I assume you know of the reputation the Sawyer bags have/had for breaking. There is some debate if the newer Sawyer bags are better than the original ones. The Evernew bags are much tougher (how did yours break?).

If you're looking to save some coin, you could get two smaller Sawyer bags for carrying the clean water and then using one or both of your smaller Evernew bags for dirty water (squeeze bags). Slightly less convenient but in the end achieves the same thing you have now without the cost of a new Evernew.

Everything that I had read was that the new sawyer bags were just as tough as the Evernew ones. If this isn't the case, then the Evernew would probably be worth it. I'm not certain how exactly mine broke. I lent it out and I was told it tore at the seam where the opening is. My guess is that they were just impatient. Good idea about using my 9L as a dirty bag and using Sawyer brand for clean. I may go this route, but will likely just piney up the money for a new 2L evernew.

The Evernews can't hold up to the top being twisted against the bag itself — in other words, as indicated on the bladder itself the user needs to hold the bag at the base of the top when opening and closing it or yes it could rip.

I don't know if there were significant changes to the Sawyer bags, I heard that there were some changes but I've heard stories from people that they are the same as the old ones. So I've actually never used my Sawyer bags for squeezing, used an Evernew instead. For just plain water carry the Sawyer bags are great because they are about the lightest per liter of water of anything out there — the big Sawyer bag carries nearly 2 liters for barely an ounce on the scale, the 2L Evernew weighs about 1.5 oz.

Another possibility: instead of getting another bag what about getting another filter? I switched from the Squeeze to the Sawyer Mini, it saves nearly two ounces on the scale and costs less than a new 2L Evernew bag would (the Mini has been on Amazon for as low as $18 with free ship). And the Mini has much better flow rate than the Squeeze to my experience, so much less stress on the dirty bag.

The Outdoor Products water bladders have threads that fit the Squeeze, and they run about $3.00 each. I'm just using my Sawyer bladders until they fail, and plan to continue using the O.P. ones after that.
