I am debating making a purchase of either the Cocoon UL 60 (Cobalt blue) or the Pro 90 (red) Quilt. I have never used a quilt. My lightweight bag at this point is my Feathered Friends (FF) Vireo (full length, non zippered, non hooded sleeping bag) in eVENT with 2 oz of 800+ down overfill that weighs about 22.4 oz. I like the bag very much but it is too warm for this time of the year.
I live in eastern PA and most of my time is spent in the northeast. As a photographer, I will never get my packed weight down to what many of the UL and certainly the SUL backpackers have out there. My lightweight 4 X 5 field camera is a 2 lb 12 oz Toho Shimo FC-45X by itself without the addition of film, lenses, tripod, etc.
I carry my gear in a Custom made panel loading McHale 5000+ cu in 5 1/2 lb main compartment pack. The pack is made of 420 HT nylon and full spectra. I need this size and weight pack with its harness and waist belt system due to the weight of the food, water, and backpacking and photo gear.
I like the idea of being able to drop another 8 to 11 or so ounces from my pack weight if possible. Because of carrying the camera gear, I sleep with the gear inside one of my tents such as my Six Moons Lunar Solo enhanced with the ultra light floor which weighs about 24.9 oz with stakes (not including hiking pole).
I prefer to be less conspicuous when out with my normal color gear being blue, green, gray, or black. I have a full complement of clothing to go with the sleeping bag that I have and would purchase. I presently have the following clothing to work with the sleeping bag/quilt: FF Hyperion Jacket (800+ down), FF Volant Hood, Patagonia Micro Puff pullover (original I believe), Patagonia Micro Puff vest (original I believe), Cocoon UL pants, Cocoon UL 60 Balaclava.
It might be nice to able to have the quilt be used as an over bag for the FF Vireo but, the foot box may not accommodate this.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
