Has anyone done this?

I'm looking for a better shelter set up for me and CharlieDog…he needs to be inside a closed environment or he tends to go exploring in the am. Most of the time this is fine, as he doesn't go far, but I that's not always the case and I can't always feel safe with that.

I tried the duo innernet from MLD in the duomid, but I wasn't a big fan. So I was thinking about making a 1.5 ish person one from bear paw so that I can still have some vestibule space but Chuck can still stay inside with me.

John said if I went with a 40" wide floor then the pole would have to be inside with me…
Anyone know just how offset the pole can be in a single-pole set up to be a secure set up? I certainly could practice the dual pole set up (and make chuck carry the extenders!!!)…

Any suggestions or tips or knowledge????

I think that a dual pole setup is the best way for a Duomid, unless its for 2 people on either side of the pole.

I had a BearPawd cuben inner net made for me and it was great, still so much extra space even with a dual pole set up. I used and liked the carbon fibre pole jacks from Ruta Locura, they are crazy light. I think you could easily have a 1.5 person inner net, with the dual pole setup and still have protected space outside the sleeping area.

In the pictures below ignore the pole extenders these were just some dodgy ones I made up before I got the proper ones :) Had a very windy night with this setup and the shelter didn't move (but was noisy).

Another stupid question from me…

Does anyone have a video of how to pitch the duomid with the dual poles? I'm not sure why it stumps me so. I do have locus gear's DPTE carbon set up, but honestly I've not been able to figure out how to pitch with it!

My rudimentary searching skills came up with diddly squat….

what don't you like about the MLD inner? If it's because you think it's too deep, just don't stake it out to its full depth, stake the back (side to back of the tent), and stake the front to the depth you want. Gather up loose material and push it to the back so it won't interfere with CharliePup.

I would just put the DTPE on, pitch one of the poles regularly (i.e., vertically and in the middle). Then do the other extended to the back wall and bring the first forward and extend it.

I do have some long poles (155cm), and I think I'm able to offset the pitch enough to get a 40" inner inside. That might be another option. Since you have the cuben Duomid IIRC, you don't have to worry about the material stretching, so that would be another option.
