jacket

Weight of this jacket caught my eye. Don’t know anything about it, have any experience with it or plan to buy it.

Haven't tried that but check out the Montbell Tachyon.
A little lighter and has armpit vents. I love mine.

The way I feel about wind shirts these days is the shinier and more glossy the fabric — the lesser comfort range. Some shirts are great when it's cloudy and cool, but then when the sun comes out the fabric can get sticky on bare skin.

I have used the mhgw down jacket, it's great, the fabric is great, but it's slick and doesn't have the wicking characteristics like the Westcomb crest with pertex equilibrium. Personally I would never get a wind shirt without a hood. There are times where it's hot enough that a wind shirt will suffice during a rain storm to keep you comfortable, and the hood helps a lot.

I just looked it up and the hooded version is 2.2oz vs the 1.87oz.

There are lots of posts on this windshirt. It is light but not very breathable, relegating it to low level aerobic activities.

I had this jacket and didn't keep it for three reasons:

1. The fabric was loose in the torso on me, and I bike, so it flapped violently and loudly.

2. The arms were too short.

3. The zipper was hard to do while riding, even with two hands.

Now, I use the Arcteryx Squamish. Heavier, but it doesn't have these issues.

I didn't mind that it didn't have a hood and if I were only hiking, I would use this jacket provided the fit issues didn't exist. The material wasn't particularly clammy or non-breathable.

Thanks Greg. I find that cheap, "coil" zippers don't slide as easily as the more expensive toothed zipper. So, for riding, I like a toothed zipper. With really lightweight fabrics, the force used to pull the zipper down can be too much, so the fabric will just bunch up and fold at the neck.

You can't zip it down because the zipper isn't straight, and it's not straight because you're pulling down.

This, however, is a pretty helpful resource I'll definitely remember :)
