I just found a deal on some shoes that I would like to buy a few pairs of for my Thru hike. Last year I finished the AT wearing an 11.5 in this same shoe with plenty of room. Would it be safe to assume that my foot would not get larger than this on the PCT or do feet swell more on the PCT vs. AT?

Thank you for any input.

I can't see any medical or logical reason why a foot would swell differently on one trail vs another. Will they keep growing? Who knows….since you have experience with long distance hiking just go with your previous experience…..

Well, the PCT is at a higher average elevation and we know that the air pressure is lower at higher elevations, and since you can't "pop" your feet like you can your ears, it seems possible, even likely that …..

pretty good pseudo science huh?

You'll probably be fine — as I simply found that my feet wanted more WIDTH and the length really didn't seem to change. The Southern California PCT DESERT was probably the toughest on my feet of any section of either the PCT or the AT — lots of swelling, but just started with a roomier shoe (Altra Lone Peak) and was just fine.
