I need to contact ruta locura to get another section for my carbon .6 pole that was used on a hexamid. I realize not everyone measures their tent pole when they have one that works, but maybe someone took the time to do it.

What height makes the corners of the duo flush with the ground?

What height do you normally set it as?

150-155 cm for my silnylon Duomid. Ron lists it at 145, but I get some stretch with mine, so it goes up a bit. The cuben one that I got to play with, though, was dead-on at 145. (Apparently, Ron has said recently that the newest batch of silnylon is low enough on the stretch that it is really close, so it depends probably on when they made the shelter.)

Someone else in my duplicate thread over in gear swap says 155cm is flush and "brushing" against the dirt. 160cm (63 inch) is airier.

Regardless I it's easy to hacksaw the Ruta Locura .6" carbon pole, just tape the end to keep the carbon fiber tight for a clean cut. I will error on longer. Slanting the pole when inserted will give some flexibility, only if long enough. There is ONLY one downside from ordering a section longer; it will cost a tiny more money.

My current length: 125.73cm / 49.5 inches
Zpacks reccomended 48 inches for the hex solo.

125.7cm – 160cm = 34.27cm = 13.49 inch needed!

current pole length avg = (4) 14.5 inch so a new (5) 14 inch will fit nicely and give me 160cm to test.

The Kingfisher hiking pole my in-laws got me is 56" and works perfectly- almost but not quite flush.

Here's a good discussion of the proper pitch height on MLD's Facebook page:

Now that I think about it more, I think I'm much more often at 145-150 (probably 140+ but not quite 145 with the cuben). I definitely remember getting it up to 155 once, but I think that was after a long night of rain and trying to retension the shelter. It also could have been user error.

Honestly, I set it and forget it these days. The poles are long enough for a nice off-set pitch, which increases the room between the pole and wall. 155 is their max, so I doubt I ever really get that high.

I'll get a 14inch section to bring the total height to 160cm.

Better too long…

I like a high pitch.

In that Facebook link a guy uses a 155cm pole and his duomid is one inch off the ground. But its cuben.
