so i just received the granite gear crown from rei. i requested the large torso. they only give you the option for the medium hip belt, so that's what i got. the back pad goes just above the shoulder a little bit. it seems to fit fine but the medium belt has to be cinched down pretty close to all the way. i'm 6' 2" and about 165, usually a 32 33 in pants. ive read in previous reviews people had the same problem.

options are..
A. i either keep it the way it is and cut the loose strap (that gives me a little belly room to grow
B. i spend forty dollars and downsize the belt
C. go with the ULA circuit and return the whole bag.
D. go with a completely different UL framed pack

i had rei gift cards to burn so that was one of my deciding factors on getting the pack instead of the ula circuit. feeling pretty indecisive at the moment. any thoughts?

REI is notorious for not allowing the customization of GG packs as the manufacturer intended. I guess that makes sense, they are simply a retailer :)

Visit the GG site to determine the belt you want then contact GG directly and they will swap out the belt you have for the one you want. It will cost you the shipping to return the current belt.

One thing to consider, the smaller belts have shorter padding, i.e. the padded part of the belt will not wrap around your waist as far as the larger ones.

thanks john, something to consider. they made the sizes so everyone is on the edge of one size or the other. frustrating! decisions…

and now i'm thinking the torso size might not be correct either or the shoulder straps are too narrow or both. when i have the waist belt adjusted and cinch the shoulder straps down, they hit the back of my neck above that top bone that sticks out.
