This is really frustrating, and it seems that I'm in the minority as I can't find any information about other people having this issue lately. I cannot access http://www.sixmoondesigns.com on my desktop (newest version of chrome and IE), phone, or tablet. I've tried clearing cookies but it hasn't cleared the problem. This is the only site in a very long time that I've had a problem like this. I found a very old BPL thread on this very issue, but I think it was from 2007. Is there a trick to this? I've been to this site on each of these devices once, so maybe it's still a cookie or temp internet file issue even after deleting, but now I'm shut out. I know I'm missing something obvious.

Try http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/sixmoondesigns.com

A quick and dirty way to see if you are having issues or the website.

If it is down for you, is it always the same connection? In other words only happens at home but not the office or your favorite coffee shop?

A simple reboot of your DSL or cable modem may help (actually fixed a similar issue for me)

If that trick does not work, and you are experiencing the issues in just one place, quite possible that the DNS cache of your internet service provider is corrupt/has wrong info (esp if multiple devices at your internet connection of choice are having issues). Think of the DNS as a road map of the internet as a rough analogy.

A quick test of this theory is to use an alternative DNS setting. Google is good one; there are others:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/free-public-dns-servers.htm

Have your local computer savvy person set this on your Windows or Mac machine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul,

I know this is more of a computer question than a gear question, but I figured I'd try here since I did see a post from a while ago indicating that many people were having problems loading the site. I've been on a cookie clearing rampage, and I'm now to the point where I can load it on my phone using 4g, on my tablet at work, but not on my desktop or home network trying three browsers and having cleared cookies in all of them. At least I know it's not the site itself. I'll just focus on my own computer. It's the only site that has given me an issue like this in years. Strange.

CCleaner (used to be called "Crap Cleaner") does a deep scrub of temp files, cookies, cached files, etc. Bonus: It lets you preserve your cached passwords and other info if so desired.

Double bonus: It is for both Macs and Windows.
Win http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
OS X https://www.piriform.com/mac/ccleaner

Even more bonus: It is free!

Be sure to NOT install any extra tool bars or av software during the install.

Speaking of which: Disable any tool bars you may have on your browser. That type of software can cause trouble. Extra anti-virus software can also sneak into the computer too (McAfee and Norton are "popular" ones for that) and may cause issues.

Anyway, just some other ideas to possibly try.

Hi Travis,

Sounds like a frustrating problem! Here’s another way you might be able to test if it is a local DNS issue. (Like Paul was saying, DNS is the tech which converts a web site’s numeric IP address into human friendly letters and words.)

If you still can’t access the http://www.sixmoondesigns.com website from your home computers, you could try putting Six Moon Design’s IP address 205.134.252.200, directly into your web browser’s address toolbar.

If using the IP address (the numbers 205.134.252.200) works, then it would suggest that something is going on with the DNS resolution on your home network. (At which point it’s time to call in your local computer savvy person!)

Good luck!

Travis, It's not just your computer — I haven't been able to get the website either. Tried both Chrome and IE, and it still won't work. Clearly there's an issue with the website — I seem to be able to get every other website I've tried… I guess they won't be getting my business if I can't get their website! Not a very good strategy for success…

I can access the website without issue using both Safari and Explorer. Chrome works as well.

Hi Valerie,

You may have missed it, but the link I posted at the top of the thread is a good one to test if a website is down for you or everyone:
http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/sixmoondesigns.com

This one also shows SMD is up, but unknown when the last time it was ever down:
http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/sixmoondesigns.com.html

In other words, SMD has a pretty good record of being up consistently.

Being a techie, I can sympathize how frustrating the issue can be. However, not good to put down a company when it is a local issue for you. :)

You may want to try one of the steps listed by others or myself to clear up the issue.

Sometimes all it takes is a simple reboot of the DSL modem or a clearing of the cache on your browsers.

So I always had problems getting to smds website when I typed in the address but could always get there via googling six moon designs. I finally figured it out. I was typing in sixmoonsdesign instead of sixmoondesigns into the address bar. So double check if you arent misplacing an s when typing.

Wow, thanks guys for all the suggestions.

Typos aren't an issue because I can't access the site by any method, including searching for it on Google and then clicking the link.

Going directly to the SMD IP address doesn't work either. I cannot access http://www.sixmoondesigns.com or 205.134.252.200 using either Chrome or IE from my desktop computer. But I CAN access the site on my phone over a completely different network.

Seems like there's a rare issue with the site for a very small number of people, but for those people it's a huge issue. Here's the post that made me ask this question here in the first place: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/thread_display.html?forum_thread_id=6380

Paul, I'll try CCleaner (I've used it before, but not in years). I don't have any tool bars installed at all.

I'm with Travis — nothing I try has ever let me onto their website, and I'm unwilling to devote more than 30 min to remedy the problem, since it's the ONLY website that doesn't work for me (and I visit hundreds of websites every week). I wasn't being AT ALL rude, Mags: if I owned Six Moon Designs, I'd be VERY upset that some (even a small number) of my potential customers were unable to buy from me!

I'm currently shopping for a new large-capacity pack. Six Moon is the only site I've had trouble getting to, and I've been looking at all the typical cottage manufacturers (HMG, Z-Packs, GG, GoLite, ULA, etc.) — no problems with any of them.

I was hoping someone from Six Moon Designs might see this thread, and take care of the issue, so that their company could stop losing business (i.e., I was *trying* to be constructive).

As it stands, I'll simply buy from someone else, because there are many wonderful packs to choose from, and I don't want to spend hours just trying to get on one website. I'm not being rude; I'm just being honest about how I will transact business — if you make it difficult to buy your products, you will have a harder time in a competitive marketplace.

"if you make it difficult to buy your products, you will have a harder time in a competitive marketplace."

?? You can't get on the website so Ron has failed in effectively marketing his products to you? Something is wrong with your computer. Fix it and stop dramatizing the fact.
