bighorn sheep ram

A bunch of us were doing a survey of bighorn sheep in the San Gabriel Mountains, and I think this ram was surveying the humans.

The bighorn survey results just came in. Our team along the Middle Fork Lytle Creek counted far more animals than the rest of the teams across the San Gabriels. Of course, it was really lousy weather, so it wasn't perfect for anybody.

The ram wasn't too bothered, because he was above us looking down. All of the other sheep of his group had already gone ahead, so he was just hanging back to make sure that the crazy humans didn't do something strange like pull out a firearm.

The only things that we were shooting were long lens cameras.

When we were high up on the ridgeline, it was windy and foggy. By the time we saw the animals, we were down near the valley floor, so the weather was so-so.
