Last August, I posted about a MYOG lightweight (< 1.5#) camp chair, and there was some inquiry about making such a chair available for sale:

Now it appears on Trailspace that the Alite Mayfly 1.4# chair, has been improved to correct a defect that led to failure. The reviewer promises to keep readers posted about how the chair holds up in the field:

This chair sits low to the ground, minimizing chances of tipping over, as well as breakage likely when the top of one of a higher, tippier chair wants to go in a different direction than the bottom. It is stated to be under 1# 6 oz and unlike my MYOG chair, disassembles and folds completely up and packs in a stuff sack, similar to a pole sack, making it much easier to pack or attach to the outside of a pack.

One downside is the price, that varies from around $100 at big retailers, like EMS and Campmor, to around $65 at some of the online outlets. Caution might be in order to avoid getting the older model.

Still, if the Trailspace reviewer's updates about the improvements are positive, I will probably get one myself. It is only an ounce or so heavier than the MYOG number, and won't interfere with access getting into the pack like the large folded MYOG chair does when strapped to the back of the pack. And as stated, I like a chair that sits low, increasing stability and reducing the chance of breakage. The Alite seats are also quite comfy with plenty of back support.

That would be a first for me buying a commercial product to replace a MYOG. But AOK if it works better.

Thanks for the heads up.

I would scrap every one of my myog items if someone came up with a better replacement.
