Hi,

I'm currently using a pair of Altra Superiors which I don't really have a problem with, but something about the Inov8s is calling me and I want to give them a go.

However, I'll need to buy them sight unseen, so I'm a bit hesitant as to whether they will be wide enough. I've had a go on shoefitr on runningwarehouse.com to compare to some of my other shoes, but it keeps recommending two different sizes, and based on the picture guides it gives I can't decide :(

Can anyone with experience in the below shoes and the 235s please comment on the relative fit?

Altra Lone Peak 1.5s – size 12.5 fit me pretty well perfect, touch loose in the heel
Altra Superior – 13 fits me pretty well out of the box and perfect with the 2mm rock plate removed
Merrell Vapor Glove – 12 fits me excellently, maybe a bit too long, but overall the best shoes I've ever owned (but I don't use on trails obviously..
Merrell Trail Gloves – 12.5 fit pretty good, a little too narrow in the forefoot, but fine with thin socks..

Basically the option is between the 12.5 with the 3mm footbed for a bit of extra volume or the 13 with thick socks if needed.. Leaning towards the 13 as the safe option, but I don't want clown shoes if it's not necessary :)

I was speaking to the local Inov-8 Rep the other day and all the shoes they have are going to a wider toe box similar to the altra's.

Over the next few months all the new models should roll out and the fit dynamics will change.

I can't wear Altra, either the Lone Peak or Superior, because the heel is too wide. In the 235s I do not have this problem. The 235 might have a slighter narrower toe box. Inov8 suggested I go down a half size with the 235s, and this has worked out well.

I have Terroc 330's and the Altra lone peaks. The Inov8's are definitely narrower all the way around with less volume in the toe box. I'd say there is a big difference you should keep in mind between the two manufacturers.
