I am in the process of having some Evazote pads made. Is there a specific thickness and width that is in demand?

I am planning on a 3/8" thick and 1/4" pad roughly 20" x 59". Note the maximum length of Evazote is approximately 59 inches. Maximum thickness is approximately 1".

Would love some feedback on what people are looking for and I can see if it is economically feasible.

72" seems to be an industry standard for full-length pads. How certain are you that 59" is the limit?

Otherwise, 20" width seems like an industry standard as well. I'm quite happy with 3/8" or 1/4" thicknesses, but 1/2" is popular. I'd bet those people would be happy with 3/8", though.

As with most things, depends on how you're using them. Not sure if it's Evazote, but I picked up a 1/4" closed cell foam pad from David Olsen at Oware a couple of years ago. I use it under an XTherm in winter. It doesn't soak up water and is nice and light. Works perfectly. I cut mine about 28" wide, since I use an XTherm large. It's maybe 80" long?

If you asked this question on hammockforums.net, most replies would demand 28" or more.
Here on BPL, most people would be content with 20" width.

You decide what is your target audience, and whether you want to maximize the profits or minimize the costs….

3/8 x 20 x 59-60 does it for me. On harder or uneven ground, I like to combine it with a thinner torso pad. Gives a lot of options for getting comfortable.

Cheers,

Thanks for the replies! I will probably move forward with 3/8" and 1/4" thick pads. I want to offer them to use with our new boat that is coming out. They can be used as a lightweight insulating floor for our boats or sleeping pad.

I cut my foam pads to 25" wide so my arms have something to rest on if I'm on my back. I use either 1/8" or 1/4" foam as a ground sheet under my bivy, and the additional width helps protect the bottom much better than 20" wide would. Foam padding can be taped together to form longer lengths; just extended my pad this weekend from 62" to 82" long. 1/4" weighs 7.6oz

Lawson's going to start carrying insulate pads again, but only 1/8 inch thick.

I also like 25" wide so I can rest my arms on something. (Another back sleeper)
