Hi Travis, Thanks for your comment. The super cat works great for the two of us. We don’t typically heat up more than 3 cups at a time, which takes a little over one ounce of alcohol. Notice I say “heat up” rather than boil; we heat the water to about 160º – 160ºF to save fuel and time. Plus, when the water boils, we have to wait longer to eat our food and drink our tea.

The good news is that the super cat will set you back the cost of one serving of cat food, or Deviled Ham in our case. However, canister stoves are nice and work better in the cold (below freezing) where the alcohol seems to suffer.

For two people, you can get by with an alcohol stove although it’s a little slow. For three people, I myself typically bring a canister stove.

The SuperCat is a “set the pot on top” type of stove, one with no pot stand. That type of stove works better with smaller pots and is less stable for bigger pots. I don’t know what size pot you plan to use, but pot stability should be considered.

I don’t know that I’m particularly an expert. Roger Caffin maybe, but me? Not so much. I do have a lot of experience with stoves and I like to think that I identify the critical factors concerning stoves, but whatever.
