I have a few and have used them for temporary attachments to tarps. They have been around for decades. I think the ones I have are from Sierra Designs but they look just like the ones in the link you gave.

They work well but are sometimes difficult to attach, particularly with thicker fabric.

You can achieve the same thing by wrapping the fabric around a pebble and tying a cord around it. I've also used 1/2" diameter styrofoam balls in place of the pebble. I prefer this method over the fitting so I would not buy the fitting again.

They've been around for a while. A long time ago they were mentioned on BPL as a good solution for extra guys especially on the simpler tarps and pyramids (eg BD Megalite) that were available at the time. These days UL shelters are made much more complex and usually with adequate guys so people don't think about them any more. Ahh, advancement :-)

Actually when I saw the title of this thread I was hoping for a nice discussion on dutchware clips…

I bought 8 when I had the idea to create Polycro "doors" for a tarp setup…we get crazy rain storms in the SE and need to batten down the hatches from time to time. I suppose they would work as advertised on thicker materials, but didn't work too well on Polycro. After thickening up the attachment points with a layer or two of packing tape they worked acceptably, but I abandoned my tarp pretensions soon after.

It might be valuable to carry a couple for field repairs in an emergency…

I remember playing around with the SD grip clips 20 years ago. I found that they were only useful as a very "temporary" non-permanent solution.

They would always eventually stretch out the material they were clipped to, if left on too long.

I don't think I'd have the heart to try them on sil-nylon or cuben fiber. Nowadays, if I felt like I'd really needed one in some strategic location, I'd probably use the rope/stone method as was suggested, or opt to lug along the sewing machine and some seam grip.

I've been looking for Colin Fletcher's Visklamps for most of my life it seems.
I think they'd work better. Probably should just go and make some…
