I am just learning about these in the last few days. I guess they are somewhat rare around this area, but there are a few. Some locals have gotten very excited about it. I had no idea.

Those are truly amazing. They look like they'd be right at home in some movie set in medieval times!
Beautiful.
"I think of goldens as being in open country like Denali and Montana."
They are also fairly common in the Sierra.
Kat, your photos are truly wonderful. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Thanks Doug, Greg and Gary :)
Hi Kat
Just plain amazing. Honestly.
Now, where's that article you are going to write about trail cameras? Seriously!
Cheers
Hi Roger,
Thanks and yes, I know I am dropping the ball. I want to do a good job so I am afraid to start. But I will soon!
Hi Kat
Feel free to bounce drafts and any Qs off me. I will be happy to help.
Cheers
Southern Miss! To The Top!!
…ok, ok… we'll take a two win season. Hell, A first down would be sufficient.
Awesome pics, Kat.
That Kestrel is beautiful, too.
Ok Roger, will do this weekend.
Jeff….I don't get it….help?
"Jeff….I don't get it….help?"
They're the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles football team….
Edited to add: and they suck. They won their first game last year, then lost the rest. Sorry Jeff….
Amazing shots Kat. A couple of them are really great. I really like the ones of the eagle just landing or just taking off with its wings spread. The scene in the second photo (of the second batch of photos) you posted really grabs my attention.
I've only seen a Golden Eagle up close once. It was hanging around my yard in the Santa Barbara foothills harassing a couple of red tail hawks that lived in the eucalyptus trees along the creek at the bottom of our yard.
Impressive birds, both in their size/stature and in their aggressiveness. I understand they're pretty rare around these parts although there used to be some living out on the Channel Islands National Park. Apparently they moved in on the islands after the Bald Eagle population crashed. In recent years the Goldens were captured and relocated from the islands as part of an effort to reestablish the bald eagles on the islands and support island fox repopulation efforts. The Goldens would prey on the island foxes which are about the size of small house cats.
You are so lucky to have been there, and I feel so lucky to see your photos!
No worries, Ide. …Its a fact.
They were ok concidering the level (and location) of the school. Longtime coach left, been a tough road since.
Almost two zero win seasons back-to-back. Ouch
Giving a bad name to actual Golden Eagles.
Not all schools harbor grandiose spirations in their choice of mascots.
Consider the US Santa Cruz Banana Slugs!
(says the patriarch of a family sporting 7 degrees from the school that adopted the thirteen lined grounds squirrel … aka Gopher)
You making fun of Slugs now??
:) I work at UCSC….
I also find banana slugs in my house now and then; might aim a trail camera on them next.

Probably not enough movement to trip the shutter.
