Well…that was quick. Sierra Designs Cloud System seems to be no more.

Their much touted and hyped Cloud system seems to be MIA. I just went to their website to order their Cloud Rain Jacket and it's gone! Looks like they quickly gave up on ultralight clothing. They aren't even listing the Cloud Puffy.

They do have a new $99 windshirt. https://www.sierradesigns.com/product/mens-stow-windshirt

The new OR Helium "HD" is also 3 ounces heavier than the old Helium. The world is conspiring against me this morning. As of now, thankfully, they are still selling the old Helium II.

For retail, the stuff needs to move. I started seeing the components on sale at Moosejaw some time ago but they are gone now (though I see a woman's shell on amazon currently). Trying to appeal to the mass market (big box), I wonder why a company that size would put out a pocketless jacket?

All:

Mike Glavin from Sierra Designs here. The Cloud Layering system indeed sold poorly. The rainshiell (Airshell) in particular was deemed over-expensive for an item with limited durability. We also struggled within retail stores to tell an effective story as to how the pieces worked together.

In the midst of a full brand re-launch, we decided to pull back for now and focus on other concepts. But the Cloud System has not gone away. In fact, we plan to double down on it in 2015 with some refinements and significant advancements.

Michael,

I spent the evening drinking wine and cruising the newly redesigned Sierra Designs website. While I can't say I will be purchasing any of your new gear due to it being a smidgen beyond the weight restrictions I look at, I will say I was blown away by the new designs. I love the new Trench Rain Coat, and the Quilt, even the Back Country Bed. The new Stow wind shirt is really nice looking, too.

Very innovative stuff! Nice work.

I was disappointed as well to see the SD cloud system go away before I decided to pull the trigger on new gear. I ended up with a Patagonia Cap4 Hoody, OR Helium II, and MH Ghostwhisperer Down Hoody.

Micheal, great to see you trolling the site, listening to comments and giving back as well.

I was instantly intrigued by the Backcountry Bed & Quilt when they came out, sold a couple of other quilts not being used, and bought both the BC Bed & Quilt. I absolutely love the designs and innovative features. I find myself using the quilt on warmer nights and the bed on colder trips. Great products and keep up the status quo-breaking designs. By the way, I am 6' and 240 lbs and found the coverage on the quilt to still be adequate for keeping out drafts.
