Hello BPL,

Recently I have switched from heavy Nalgene bottles to Smartwater bottles for weight savings. Not too long after I discovered a lighter alternative to the Smart water bottles, saving 7.25 grams on my scale. I found it at Walgreens Pharmacy called "Delish Elecrolyte Water", a Walgreens brand. If this has already been covered forgive me, I was really stoked when I discovered this! SmartWater 1L with label and neckband removed weighs 37.5g, Delish with label and neckband removed weighs 30.25. They aren't completely dry so the weights may be a little off, but 7ish grams weight savings regardless. 12

EDIT: If anyone knows a way to get the sticky glue off the bottle let me know, I have tried rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover with no luck. Thinking of trying sandpaper but a little weary. Also forgot to mention that a Sawyer will not thread onto this bottle if you use the Smart bottle for filtering, only downside I have found thus far.

I assume the threading is same standard bottle threading so something like a Sawyer would fit just like the SmartWater bottles?

Forgot to mention, kind of important- The threading is NOT the same as smartwater, so a sawyer filter will not screw on to the bottle. it slipped my mind at the time of posting, probably because I use a platy bladder for filtering and the bottles for carrying/drinking.

Thanks Dale, never thought of Goo gone, duh!

There are quite a few bottles still lighter. I use smartwater bottles when I need to carry 4L , with 2 in each side pocket because they fit in easier, and can be taken out and replaced with less hassle. If I dont need to carry that much, I use lighter bottles.

A little low-odor mineral sprits on a paper towel removes it almost instantly. Just do it with the cap on and give the bottle a quick wash after using dish soap.

If you're carrying 2 smartwater bottles in ea side, a half gallon rectangular juice bottle is ~10 grams less than a pair of bottles, has a wide mouth, packs nice and is more durable. Just throwing out options

I was only posting this for those who currently use smart bottles and wanted a lighter option with almost identical size and shape. I use a two liter platy if I need to carry more water and usually a 1 liter platy and a 1 liter smartwater. I like the convenience of having a solid bottle for gravity filtering and the slim shape of smartwater making it easy to grab on the go. I think a half gallon jug would be too bulky for me. What lighter 1 liter bottles are people using that are similar in size and shape?

Thanks for the tips on removing the glue!

The Dasani bottles are the lightest in my experience. They are allegedly made from a high percentage of recycled "natural" plant material (less BPA?). Anyway they are the only bottles I've used that are under an ounce for full liter capacity and they last around a year with care. Another favorite that's a little more durable and boasts a nicer cap is the Whole Foods brand "smart" water. I think it's called "electrolyte water" or something creative like that. They are like smart water in a lot of ways but have a better center of gravity and profile. Like this:ewater

And for the Sawyer Squeeze, I use evernew bladders. but, I have not had a sawyer bladder fail, and I have two. I think they corrected the original issues with their products in first gen squeeze filters.

Mineral spirits; so THAT'S the magic elixir! Worked awesome. I love this place, you guys are great! Silicone diluter and label remover… Should be in the multiple use forum ;-)

Know what else will work? Peanut butter. Rub the glue-gunk area with a little vegetable oil, wipe off, then smear with peanut butter. Rub it in like you're buffing a car, then wash it off. Messy, but the glue will be gone.

Just a little side note. It is great to think about the chemicals in your water bottles. In response to Brian Johnson ;BPA is a chemical that was used in rigid bottles such as nalgene, not disposable water bottles (unless I am mistaken). There definately other chemicals that will leach while hauling disposable bottles around in the sun. You are mostly like to get BPA from canned goods at this point.
