I just purchased a Rab neutrino endurance jacket. This is my first Rab product and I have to say I was not impressed. The quality of the construction was fine but with 8oz of 800 down fill I would have thought that the jacket would have a lot more loft??? I have a WM flight Jacket (4.5 of 850 down) and the lost is twice that of the Rab neutrino endurance jacket.

Does anyone own one of these jackets that can comment? Think I am going to stick to WM moving forward.

Really??? I have the Rab Infinity and literally it is comically puffy. I mean so puffy I am generally embarrassed to wear it unless the temperatures are so very, very cold outside that no one can see me through their puffy hoods.

I am a huge fan of Rab's kit…

Tom,

My wife has had a Neutrino Endurance for 3 or 4 years now, it has a single layer loft in the centre of the baffle of between one and a half and one and three quarter inches.

You mention that you've just bought the jacket, perhaps it has been compressed in storage. If you haven't already, give it a thorough shake or tumble dry.

Even better, fluff dry in the dryer with three clean tennis balls banging around with the jacket. Great way to dry and/or fluff down. I bought a 3-pack of new tennis balls that I keep next to the detergent for just that purpose.

I just got my new Rab neutrino a week ago and I thought it was rediculously puffy. I got a men's small and the fit is comfortable. I haven't field tested it yet, but it seems like it is gonna be super warm and I am happy with what I purchased.

I had a Neutrino Endurance jacket for about a year. I thought it was pretty damn puffy and warm. The hood is freaking sweet too… seals in the warmth like none other.

I have the Neutrino too. It's a very warm jacket. I measured the jacket and mine has about 4" loft total. My Nunatak Skaha has less down but has more loft when measured side by side. However, the Neutrino is much warmer. I think there is more going on than simply the measured loft. The down on the Neutrino is MUCH less compressible and the jacket is physically much more bulky than the Skaha. You only have to blow lightly on the Skaha to compress it's very lightweight down. Perhaps in a lab the greater loft of the Skaha would "measure" better – but in real world conditions with wind blowing and you moving around the Rab is warmer (my experience – others may differ) . The Skaha is a fantastic jacket too though, but It's not intended for winter seasons in the NE.

Interesting thread. I recently got a Neutrino and find the loft a bit disappointing too. Total loft front and back, laying on a flat floor is only 2-2.5". My WM Flight, lofts approximately 3-3.5", and it's 5+ years old and has been through 50+ days in the field.
