I was wondering what the weight difference between the MSR Blizzard snow stakes and the Amazon-sourced JOGR snow stakes was.

http://www.amazon.com/JOGR-Snow-Sand-Boating-Stakes/dp/B007MBF7WQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392869397&sr=8-1&keywords=snow+stakes

JOGRs are $12.50 for a 4-pack in the 9" size ($3.13 per stake.)

Blizzards are $4.95 per stake, or $19.80 for a 9.5" size.

Anyway, I bought the JOGR set on Amazon and just measured them. They clock in at 26g each and are 8.9" long.

The only weight spec I can find for the Blizzards is here:
http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/equipment-c3/accessories-c10/tent-pegs-poles-c11/blizzard-tent-stakes-2pk-p128

Which lists them at 23g each. I'm not sure if anyone has actually held both and can compare…I'm going by REI this weekend and may pick up the MSR ones just for comparison…but if anyone else is gearing up for a last minute winter trip, at least rest assured the cheap Amazon snow stakes are not incredibly heavy by comparison.

(This is for an MLD Grace Duo tarp, I'm combining 4 SMC T-Anchors w/ 4 snow stakes for an upcoming Sierra trip…assuming we get high enough to actually hit snow…)

I only have experience with the MSR Blizzard stakes. Mine weight in at an average of 22g (I just threw 10 of them on the scale and got 0.22kg). I've used them in snow and dirt. I've bent one being impatient when trying to drive it into a dirt/rock mix (totally my fault) but otherwise I've had no issues. They work well in snow. There are lighter options, but these are quick and easy.

Also, I've never paid $4.95 for these stakes. They are frequently on sale for 20-30% off if you're patient.
