Anyone have any experience with the SMD Lunar Solo since they modified it last year? People complained about condensation and pitching hassles with the old one. They made the pole higher, making the walls steeper, and say it is better in the wind and there is more headroom inside. If you have one please chime in.

Lots of room for a single person tent. I am 6'2" and did not have to use the additional pull outs to have enough room, though I can see using them in a high wind. Easy side access to get in and out. Plenty of head room, I tend to pitch it closer to 50 -51" rather than 49". I found it easy to pitch and get tight. I simply followed Ron's instructions and diagram and it made it a quick pitch. I have had some issues with condensation (frost) but I have only used it so far on nights where the temp was usually 15 to 20 degrees. I don't like the small hook that connects the two parts of the vestibules to the front guyline. I probably will replace it with something a little easier to hook the vestibule to the line. Also plenty of headroom and space to keep gear inside if you choose. The only thing that might cause me to stay with my tarp and net tent is that I do like more room over my head, despite liking the side entry better. But it's light for its size, easy to pitch, and cheap among all your choices for a single wall tent.

Thanks BJ. Could you tell me the approximate dimensions of the floor space within the netting?

It's about 90" long, 48" in the middle and I think at least 30" on the ends. I am writing from memory here! It has 5-6 more square feet than most other one person tarp type tent.

Actually it's 36" wide at both ends. The end walls are vertical and 12" high with 6" bathtub floor.

Ron,
Thanks for the correction. It really is a great shelter. My only concern is my son wants to liberate it for his use. He is 6'4" and he has no problems fitting in it. Right now it looks like it will be my shelter for an upcoming thru hike, and the Starlite will be the pack for it as well.

Evan, I rechecked my pole and found my memory was not too keen here either as I am more likely to pitch it at 49+" not 50 to 51"

"He is 6'4" and he has no problems fitting in it."

Exactly the info I was looking for. The search function on this forum works great.

Kirby,
I should tell you he has his pad a little kitty corner but with the width in the ends it works well. I had mine out on the CO Trail this week and found it great in tight places and a breeze to get set up quickly. The only thing that could make it better for me would be cuben to make it even lighter.
