Silicon peeling?

I've recently tried the method of mixing silicon seam sealer with a bit of mineral spirits to apply it as a sealant. I'm now finding that it peels off quite easily: just a slight rub of thumb, and off it comes.
Any insight? Is this a general tendency of silicon?
I'm applying it to the flysheet of a BA SH SL2 tent.

Thanks!

What you are mixing is not silicon.

It is silicone. Two completely different things.

"BA SH SL2"

Check with BA to see if your model is to be "repaired" with SilNet or with SeamGrip.

On some of their "silnylon" fabrics SeamGrip is the recommended route.

Perhaps a blend of PU, silicone, and marketing?

From the BA web site:
'Fly and floor are lightweight silicone treated nylon rip-stop with a 1200mm waterproof polyurethane coating'

Now, I really am NOT sure what this means. A masterpiece of buzz-word marketing. Perhaps it means that one side is PU-coated and the other side is silicone-coated?

Anyhow, silicone will NOT bond to a PU coating, nor will it bond to a fluorocarbon DWR coating. If it peels off so easily, there's your problem.

Cheers

Some DWR treatments are silicone. Perhaps one side is silicone DWR the other PU coat.
