Bought an Epicurean Ti Stove from Jon at Flat Cat Gear after eating … I mean seeing his demonstrations at the GGG. Tried it for the first time this afternoon – I started with a cheeseburger! But I've been having too much fun in the kitchen this weekend. I've got some pumpkin and black bean chili cooking up in the crock pot at the moment, and that will be followed by some Overnight Pumpkin Pecan Steel Cut Oatmeal in the crock pot, so it'll be waiting for me in the morning. Cooking all recipes for the first time! I love playing in the kitchen!

Anyway, here's my cheeseburger. Gluten free (soyfreecornfreericefreepotatofreeyeastfreepeanutfree … treenutfreeeggfreesugarfreenongmokoshercertified…) bread mix, even used chia seeds in water instead of eggs. Turned out pretty good. Tasted pretty darned good.

Will be fun experimenting with this setup!

Pumpkin and black bean chili? That's got my interest peaked. Mind sharing the recipe?

After today's stellar casual snowshoe trip with my 2 best friends, I think the 2d best "too much fun" thing would be to rent the place next door to Doug. You know, bring him some great morning coffee, put on my best sneaky wistful look, and ask if there's anything in the crock pot that I should know about. Eatin' good in the 'hood!

Idester … you evil man

This stove junkie is happy with a Kovea Spider for winter and a CC Ti-Tri + inferno the rest of the year … that's my story and I'm sticking to it (pay no attention to that box of stoves behind the curtain).

Now, where's the nearest Stoveaholics Anonymous chapter meet?

Just one issue with your slightly pink cheeseburger … one bout with STEC would convince you to quit that. This being an allegedly polite forum I'll spare you the details regarding how I know that:-)

"your slightly pink cheeseburger"

That's just the lighting! Meat was fully cooked before using.

Jim, you really, really need one of these setups. Just think, nice hot muffins in the morning, pizza or a cheeseburger or something else in the evening. No baggie meals. It's living, I tell ya. And oh so light. Yeah, you need one bad…..

Tomorrow I'm baking up some chocolate chip cookie/muffins (a cookie mix but gonna make one big muffin cookie).

Doug, yer killin me …. I'm trying to reduce my SI (Skin In) weight and you're making my mouth water … feeling like Pavlov's dog here.

And oh so light. Yeah, you need one bad…..

First I'll need to try out the simmer ring for the 12-10 stove that Trail Designs happily sold me a few weeks ago.

Oh no! ANOTHER stove I must try. Damn you Doug! Oh the humanity! When will it end!

Sorry folks, I ran out of time today and didn't get a chance to make the chocolate chip cookiemuffin. So I can't tempt you with that bit of deliciousness….

That black bean pumpkin chili would dry and rehydrate beautifully too. I did a pumpkin chili in my second book. Bry was reluctant to try it but when he did he was pleasantly surprised. I should dig up my Pumpkin Hummus recipe for you guys.

Chia can make a good egg sub – but be wary if your stomach is bothered by small seeds. I find ground flaxseed a lot easier to digest IMO. I use 1 Tbsp + 3 Tbsp water, soak for 10-15 minutes, for each egg, in baked items. We don't use eggs due to the youngest son's severe allergies.

In my limited experience, flax seems to work better than chia when the dish is a cooked one. Chia works great in a cold dish (chia puddings are a great backpacking dessert, as I found out last summer!).
