Do you folks measure fabric thickness when buying? If so, how? Given that fabric will "push back," how do you know when you have a good measurement of thickness? I've been using my shop dial calipers to measure fleece, but I'm never sure when I have an accurate measurement, because I'm not certain how much the fabric is compressing.

Lay fabric on surface, fluffed up the same as when you'de use it. If there's a zipper, unzip and measure in zipper gap.
Put straight edge above, parallel to surface, even with top surface of fabric. Measure distance between straight edge and surface.
You want to average over a large area of the fabric
On a similar vein, how do you measure fabric weight when buying?
I can feel it on the fabric roll, and I can tell heavy or light somewhat, but not whether it is 1 ounce or 2 ounces per square yard.
