I just got word from the Smartwool Customer Service and they said the following about the Shadow Hoody;

Unfortunately the Shadow Hoodie will not be made again this fall. Our current aswell as Fall 07 Microweight line will be the closest in weight to the Shadow and I would checkout the Men's Combo Crew and Half Zip for Fall of 07.

I didnt know. Bummer.
Patagonia R1 Hoody it will be then but I would have preffered a merino wool hoody.

Too bad. Time to start bugging Ibex or Icebreaker to produce a hoody. They may be more responsive to our niche demands.

I was under the impression that the Smartwool Shadow Hoody was quite succesful, apparently not.

Too bad.

Ibex could be convinced as they are not such a big company….

Icebreaker's NZ Web site has 2 different hoodies. The hoodies were added within the past 2 weeks. If you visit their site, select New Zealand from the location menu, and then you can find the Nomad (pullover) under Insulation->Sport. The Conquest Hood (full zip) is under Insulation->EXP

Since they were just added, I've been hoping they will be available in the US in autumn.

The Nomad pullover looks interesting. I've been looking for a Merino hooded pullover that I'm happy with for some time. I like my a tad thicker/heavier than the Smartwool one. Maybe this will fit the bill?

Thanks for the link. I'm always on the lookout for one…

Yes, I've heard of the heavier Icebreaker hoodies but no one is doing this with a lighter weight wool that would be more versatile for a range of conditions and for layering. It's an empty niche, at the moment it would appear. The 320 weight Nomad would weigh in at almost double the weight of my 10 oz. SW Shadow Hoody (men's L).

Hello all,

Thanks for all the kind words about SmartWool.

I just did some checking, and I have found that there are few Shadow Hoodies still to be had. All that remain are medium and large. The color is driftwood/brick (grey with red).

The style # is 15-611 and the color # is 528.

Your favorite SmartWool dealer should be able to special order one for you while they last.

I hope this is helpful. Believe in the wool!

Yes Glenn,

where are they available. Smartwool said they didn't have any and online I can't find them. I am looking for a medium, color doesn't matter.

Can you tell me where I can find one.

Thanks

I just placed a call to Smartwool b/c this item has def been on my list as well and the women said that they did not have any in? Are in stock somwhere else?

I just got a 320 weight non-hoodie from Icebreaker, and I can understand the desire for something lighter. If Ibex doesn't come up with a lighter weight option, I wonder how easy it would be to get fabric and try making one. Maybe make a hood out of another base-layer, and attach it to another base.

I just emailed back and fourth with Ibex and I guess they have some kind of hoody planned for their Fall 2008 collection.

Hi again.

You should be able to call any SmartWool dealer and ask them to make a special order for the Shadow Hoodie (Item# 15-611 in color 528 (Driftwood/Brick) sizes M or L in mens)

The women's version was called the Columbine hoodie (item#15-211, only sizes left XS,LG,XL)

I run the web for SmartWool, and we no longer have these items active online. However, they are still in inventory in the warehouse that our dealers get their stock from.

So to find your hoodie:

Go online to http://www.smartwool.com
In the upper right corner of the screen we have a dealer locator – You can use it to help you find a dealer if you don't already have a local favorite.

Go to, or call a dealer and ask them to place a special order using the numbers I've provided above.

Glenn, is it possible to get a photo of this up on this forum, and maybe a MRSP?

I'm not familiar with it, but it sounds a lot like what I'm looking for.

Thanks, Rod

Thanks Glenn,

I'm probably looking for something more fitted. At this stage the best I can find is the one by Ground Effect at

http://www.groundeffect.co.nz/product-detail-HOT-MER.htm?PHPSESSID=c40cf129050fbaf1e7e6fb8ec5495404

It's a women's fit, but an XL is a pretty good fit for me 5'10", 145 lb. The only problem is the slightly short torso for me. I've spoken to them and they're talking about doing a men's version next year, (for your next summer) They're a small, quick response company so if everyone on BPL get's on their case now, you may have them in time for winter.

Note that this is Bi-component material, not pure merino.

I had given up on this item but this topic started me searching again. I found this in the UK
http://www.anatom.co.uk/public/homepage/
(the hoodie url is too long you'll have to hunt around)
I think they are the UK distributer. I e-mailed them and rather than answering me directly they fwded my mail to the intl coordinator for smartwool. I got the typical "you can order from our website". I called the smartwool 888 # and doubled checked. Was told no inv. So I wrote back to Anatom UK and cc the Intl Coor: "I want to oder from the UK because they are out of stock in the US". The intl coor wrote back and said there are 2 warehouses; 1 for the webpage/direct to consumers and a second warehouse for retailers. The retail warehouse has xl and XXL!!(the size I need.) The intl coor even suggested a retailer to order from, sent them an email, and they contacted me directly saying they would be happy to special order one for me. What great customer service. kudos to Smartwool.

Who was the retailer you ended up special ordering the hoody through? Was it the retailer you linked?

Thanks
