I am curious how folks pack up their food bag for longer hikes. I typically use gallon freezer bags and try to portion out each day with larger dinners being free floating. Since I switched over to the Zpacks Blast food bag I find a bit of empty around the ziplocks. I am slowly switching to smaller, snack or bar type foods for during the day as I am gearing up for a longer hike, about 10 days. I would like to reorganize how I pack in hopes of getting 5-6 days worth of food in the bag. Curious to know if there are some tricks.

Thanks

On longer trips I carry 2 food bags, one for cooked meals and one for no cook food. The no cook bag sits near the top of my pack.

I put all my breakfast food (packers of instant oatmeal mostly) and spare TP, in a one gallon freezer bag, my dinners loose (freeze dried), and all my other daily calories have been allocated into a ziplock sandwich bag for each day. This is a combination of Cliff bars, protein bars, nut bars, chocolate, and drink mixes – roughly 1,100-1,200 calories.

This makes it very easy to grab the day time bag and put some in my pockets and the rest in a hipbelt pocket. The food bag gets placed into my pack with the heavy bars next to my back and the lighter freeze dried meals to the outside.

ok sounds like I need to organize my meals a bit more. I like the idea of splitting the breakfast things up as well as a bag for the day. That might help eliminate the larger packed ziplocks that seem to not fit as well into the main food bag.
