I recently purchased a GoLite Jam 50L and am finally piecing together my UL hiking kit. I do have this weird desire to modify this pack, might be stemming from my past hobbies and all the tinkering that came with them ( Cars, computers, etc.) I couldn't find a specific thread explaining how to get started in backpack modifications such as which cordlocks to buy, common mods, and where to get mesh for front ziper pocket. Any helpful advice and articles on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Chris, I've modded my Jam 50 with Lineloc buckles and turned the cinch top into a roll top. I posted the details here in MYOG so you could probably search for that.

Here (was the very first result that came up when searching "Jam 50 mods"):

I some you want to cut off the zippered pocket and sew on a mesh one? You'll probably want some stretch mesh. You can check out DIY gear supply, Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics, and Seattle Fabrics. Seattle Fabrics has a wide assortment of mesh and Lycra, etc. Personally, I like having the zippered pocket.

I also cut off the hydration pack sleeve to save some weight, etc. Lemme know if you got any questions, etc.

+1 on Andy’s mods. I used many of his mods on my son’s Jam 50 in preparation for Philmont last summer.

Here is the search of the site on this topic: Jam Mods
