Any footwear that is light, comfortable for lots of walking, tough, and looks stylish (ie, not technical looking)?

Of course stylish is subjective, but I just mean something that doesn't look like a technical shoe.

I just want a pair of comfortable shoes that won't wear out on me, but aren't clunky, like my current shoes which are army boots with the ankle cut off.

You could try Ecco. All (or at least most) of their models are very light and very good quality. I have Ecco hiking shoes and dress shoes and I may get some of their casual shoes as well.

Take a look at the KEEN Wichita. Not the lightest but comfortable and durable and as far as I'm concerned not as garish as most other hiking shoes. I see them on sale often too.

all of your specifications are relative terms:
light, comfortable, tough, stylish… all relative terms.

You will get a thousand different answers…

Chaco may have had that in mind with the Tedinho model. Didn't sell and was dropped by EMS. One issue was the small lugs on the sole.

Based on your 'lots of walking' requirement, suggest concentrating on getting what fits best for that.
And beware that rocky trails can kill your feet with shoes that feel fine on more graded terrain.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm getting a better picture of what's out there.

Billy- Relative? I'll be more specific.

Light: 0.5-1.5 lbs? Shoes can only be so heavy…
Comfortable: Quality soles and design
Tough: Made with durable materials. Some boots last 30 years. I don't know what I can expect with my other requirements.
Stylish: This is poor word choice- I just mean not technical looking.

The original Nike Tallac Zooms were a very dark navy blue, almost black, reviewed on Backpacker several years back … but had GoreTex. They were discontinued. I've seen Nike Lunarglides in various colors and was thinking their gray "camouflage" or if they have a dark grey/blue it might work. I used a pair of black ones while walking off Xmas doing the urban parks (low 80's for Xmas in LA proper), but my feet were a bit sweaty as the sun beat down on them. That's what I'm thinking gray…

Remember Jardine's publications called for using regular old sneakers on most "regular" trails (granted with the tongues cut out to save a few oz).

Add that going into the sneaker level or any light shoe, durability will be in the low hundreds of miles depending on a number of changing variables (terrain, abrasion, load, mileage, etc..)

"Stylish"

What kind of casual shoes do you normally wear?
Sneakers? Skateboard shoes? Leather shoes? Tennis shoes?
