I found these slippers on sale at Ikea today for $1.99. They are of course perfectly useable as slippers and weigh 4.4oz total in this L/XL size, but in looking them over for other potential uses, I see that the soles are stitched on and should be easy to remove. My thought was they the stiff foam soles with a nice wavy tread would be a great starting point for MYOG sandals. They measure 12" long x 4-3/8" at the wide point x 1/4" thick.

I got a pair of these and used them as-is for camp shoes on a trip a while back. They were nice and cozy for hanging around camp at night, I'd take them over a pair of sandals any day. Only problem was that they didn't stay on very well, but an elastic band sewn into the sides to go around the heel would fix that easily.

$1.99…they are $2.99(AUD) at Ikea in Sydney and that is the Ikea family price. Us aussies are getting ripped off. ;)

I grabbed a pair last time I was at Ikea and thought I would try them as a camp shoe as well. Just haven't had the chance to try them yet. I've been wearing them at home and I would have to agree that a strap across the back would be a good idea.

Please post what you get up to with them as I would be interested in seeing what you do.

Regards,
Michael.
