Ahh, the glorified man-purse. Finally, I can carry my rain shell, laptop, bike tools, and water bottle without shame or fear.

My daily backpack weighs a ton, though. Anyone have suggestions for an ultralight pack that doesn't look tacti-cool or dorky for carrying around the basics all day?

In an urban environment, you have to have it look like a messenger bag or a computer bag, and you have to have a wire coming out of the top and going to ear buds. It is the modern equivalent to the businessman's briefcase of thirty years ago.

Sorry, not much help, but I had to laugh at the tacticool comment, it immediately made me think of the shemagh:

If you wear a tacticool EDC purse you have to wear a shemagh to complete the ensemble. ;-)

All joking aside, I've been carrying a Kifaru E&E pouch in khaki for the past 10 years+ as an EDC pouch, and it is perfectly sized for my needs, but wouldn't hold a laptop computer. Mine is the older version, that is not covered in MOLLE webbing, so it doesn't look AS tacticool as some of the newer stuff out there.
