I'd try myself but don't have any to experiment with.

If you have tried sewing this stuff, what were your results?

Also, what is the guts of this stuff like? Closed cell foam?

If it is cut, will a wet environment (think hot tub cover) render it useless after a while?

    Thanks.

No. Just tape it. It takes tape fine.

Thanks. I would like to sew velcro to it though. I think the self-adhesive velcro would not work for long in my situation.

The Simple Outdoor Solutions Escape Pods are sewn, and that seems to hold up nicely. Thread is lighter than duct tape, and sewing your velcro is the way to go to keep it in place.

I have sewn Velcro onto a Reflectix food cozy. Works and holds thread fine. A bit bulky going through the machine.

The guts are a double layer of bubble wrap, essentially.

I've done both tape and sew. Tape for the sides. And have sewed reinforcements if I gusset the bottom. But tape works just fine and I have had my self adhesive Velcro come off yet. You could always use rubber bands to keep the top closed. It'd be even lighter.

"I've down both tape and sew."

    Please clarify.

I put them in a shot glass and down it. I thought I was being very clear. My apologies.

    Thanks for the replies, everyone!

So it's essentially bubble wrapped faced with a reflective surface on both sides? Nothing to soak up water?

Yes, basically that's what it is.

I'd not want to sew bubble wrap for the same reasons I'd not want to sew reflectix.
