I was recently looking at the msr hubba 1, and wondered if anyone had any experience/advice regarding the tent. Is there plenty of room inside? I am 6 foot, 220. I noticed there is no vents on the fly, is there problems with condensation?
I know the weight is a bit high, but the price is right.
How would it do in the winter with temps in the 20s? Thanks for any replies.

One of my two tents is a Hubba, a '13 model, green/brown.
> Is there plenty of room inside?
No, it's a minimalist design. Some people refer to it as a coffin. It suits me fine, but some people complain. I've seen reviews of people 6'4" who say it fits them fine. The new NX version widened the footprint and shortened the height to the peak. Which makes me guess that people were complaining about width, or why would they have changed it? Again, doesn't bother me, but I'm not wide. The upside to its small footprint is, you don't need much of a site to pitch it on; it'll fit most anywhere.
Check the specs from MSR for size, and keep in mind that the walls do a pretty good job of going…well, not exactly vertical, but much better in this respect than lots of tents I've been in.
> problems with condensation?
I've experienced no problems; almost the entire top 4/5ths of the tent is made of mesh. The new NX actually reduces the amount of mesh.
> temps in the 20s?
It's a 3-season tent. I'd not rely on the tent to keep me warm. As I said, loads of mesh cover the top of the tent. The Hubba does have a reputation for being "bomb-proof" and "storm-worthy." The Reviews documents people who've taken this tent "well below freezing."
Generally the tent gets good reviews (see Reviews, gets a 4.63 of 5), except from large people that were expecting more space. And everyone complains it weighs 3 lbs. But it does freestand nicely. I guy out just for fun; it's not necessary in most the weather I'm in. The new NX model drops 6 oz, but gives you a very visible (white/red) profile.

Aside from being an all around nice tent, there is not much space inside beyond your bag. I'm 45 to 50 pounds lighter than you Myles and found it tight but adjusted to it without a terrific amount of trouble. I am sorry I got rid of it.
Thanks for the perspectives. I could do with the tight space, for what you pay for this tent. Seems like the vestible is large enough for gear.
I was really just worried about condensation, and venting, without a vent on the fly.but it seems from what you are saying, it is not an issue. I had a eureka spitfire for some time, and it was just fine inside. The hubba seems like it may be similar.
I really appreciate the feedback!
