Not sure about 'in the beginning,' but you haven't been able to get your PMs directly on this site since I've been a member. Instead, PMs are sent to the email address you provide when you sign up. When someone sends me a PM, it shows up in my regular email with a link to reply via this site. You can't reply to a PM by simply hitting 'reply' to the PM you get, you have to use the link in the email.

I wish BPL would just incorporate a real PM system within the website. I fail to understand why it's never been implemented.
