I am trying to decide between these two pack fabric choices. I have lots of experience with the 210d but have never used (or even felt) the 140d. How do these compare? How much weight will the 140d save over the 210d in a typical 3000ci pack?

I assume you're comparing the two versions sold by Thruhiker?

I've used the Thruhiker 210d, as well as the 140d used by Gossamer Gear. I'm not sure if the Thruhiker and GGear stuff are the same or not. The description makes them seem comparable.

The additional 45 degree grid on the 210d seem to enhance abrasion resistance a decent bit. I found the GGear fabric to have a better DWR initially, but DWRs on packs don't last long under any circumstances. The difference is less than an ounce per yard, so weight savings would be pretty modest.

According to thruhiker, 140D is 3.5 oz/sq yd, and 210d is 4.2 oz/sq yd. The difference is 0.7 oz/sq. yd.
In my rough estimation, a typical 3000ci backpack uses at least 1.2 sq yd. of main fabric. If you design more pocket for your pack, more than 2 sq. yd. might be needed. So you might save about 0.8 oz to 1.5 oz.
