I am currently designing a lightweight two-person hubbed tent inspired by MSR Hubba Hubba and similar tents. One thing that puzzles me is the relatively flat shape of the Hubba's roof. Unconstrained pole structure would look more like the top of an egg ant not the inverse flat bowl.

Could someone enlighten me how this flattening is achieved in Hubba Hubba? Do MSR use different diameter (stiffer) middle poles? Or is this entirely due to fabric tension – once clipped in the inner tent holds down the poles?

It would also be very helpful if someone who owns Hubba Hubba could tell me the following dimensions:
1) total length of the middle pole segment (from hub to hub);
2) total length of one of 4 leg pole segments (from hub to tip);
3) distance between two grommets for pole tips:
a) along short edge of the floor;
b) along long edge of the floor

Kris – I own a Hubba, so can't help with dimensions. However, when setting up the poles, yes, they do arc in a semi-circle at first. Then as you clip the tent's ridgeline in place, it moderates somewhat. So that tells me the cut of the tent is flattening the "roof." I have not noticed the poles being of different weight or gauge.

The cross-member pole at the top…fits very tightly. Always a little terrifying to hook it in place; always a struggle to undo it.

It's because of the spreder pulling the pole apex down as well as the hubs pushing it up.

Thanks Delmar and Franco! Going back to the drawing board.

Still, I would be grateful if someone could measure the dimensions.
