Weight is the biggest consideration. Ease of setup is important too.

Cost is not too important… Two relatively tall peeps but we don't need too much extra space (not spending much time inside besides sleeping bc it'll be mostly sunny and warm).

Advice is welcome and any new products out there that are super light?

I have the BA FC Platinum UL 2 and I would never use it for two people, and especially two tall people. I use it to solo hike and I'm not sure it is worth the very high price. The materials are very thin and the fly barely covers the interior mesh. The think the BA FC 3 is a better option for two hikers and you'll appreciate the extra room. At just over 3 lbs and sharing the weight, it's a much less expensive option in my opinion.

If money really isn't an option you may want to look at a tent from Big Sky. They provide loads of options to create a very light tent. Each option will cost you…..

Southern California averages 34.2 days of rain per year. That is around 9% of the time. Most of those days are in Jan and Feb.

You don't need a tent. Maybe a tarp just in case.

I wouldn't use the FC2 for two adults, certainly not two large men. My brother and I were fairly comfortable in a FC3 but even then it was as close as I'd want to be with another dude and we're both on the smaller size at 5'6" and 165lbs.

I'd look into Tarptent.

The Fly Creek 2 is my primary backpacking tent and I agree with the others- you'll find it very cramped for two tall guys. It's fine for me (5'5") and my dog. I wouldn't want to cram another person in there, of any size. If you're going with the Fly Creek series, go bigger.

Good ideas… It's me and the girlfriend so tight fitting tent is not a huge issue. Following up on these suggestions.

I'd look at the new Zpacks tents. The two-person has two doors/vestibules, is less than 20 ounces, and … less than $600. For another 10 or so ounces, the Tarptent Stratospire Two has always been on my wish list, great modular design that can be a tent, a tarp or a bug shelter. Something like that might be just the ticket on the PCT.

EDIT to Add, cuz everybody loves pics, an image:HexamidDuplex
