Getting ready for my thru hike of the Appalachian Trail and this is something I still need to knock out.
I will be carrying an HMG pack and the Notch Tarptent.
Despite that I am thru hiking, I really only need to carry enough kit for a couple weeks; if I use something up my sister will be able to put it in the resupply box for me.
This is what I have together already:
First Aid (trimmed down from standard Adventure Med Kit):
3*4 non-adherent pad
3*3 sterile non-woven sponges (1 package)
3*4 pad of moleskin
2*2 sterile non-woven sponges (1 package)
bandages – butterfly, 2 regular sized, 1 tiny
2 alcohol wipes
2 benzalkonium chloride wipes
2 packages antibiotic
2 packages Ibuprofen (4 tablets total)
1 package aspirin (2 tablets total)
1 pressure bandage – 2*2 (looks pretty much like gauze to me)
tweezers
2 huge safety pins
a bit of medical tape rapped around the container the tweezers came in
Repair Kit:
5*5 section of cuben repair tape (which the owner at HMG (can't remember his name) was kind enough to give me for free).
Leatherman Style CS (knife, scissors, tweezers, nail file)
And that's it. I really need to get my repair kit together.
Was thinking of carrying a couple feet of duct tape and maybe super glue?
Maybe a couple smaller safety pins?
And then maybe needle and thread is a good idea too.
Maybe ditch the packages for the pain meds, and carry more pills in a small container?
Also debating whether to carry the heavier duty repair kit tweezers when tweezers are pair of the leatherman (really wimpy tweezers).
The only two things I actually cut from the med kit are diphen and afterbite. Everything else I just halved the quantities if there were multiples.
Here's a pic comparing the two tweezers. It also shows my plan B for the med tape if I don't carry the larger tweezers (and thus not that container either)
