OK, I got a friend to save me the bladder out of a box of wine. I plan to use it as a water bladder. Problem is, I see no way to clean and dry it, as there is no "lid". Also, filling it would be a pain.

What's the secret? Do you cut a corner off and somehow reseal it? Is there some way to remove the valve?

I posted this shot sometime ago on another forum :
.Wine cask valve
I cannot remember if I unscrewed or popped that out (I think the latter) but I know that I did put it back in and it still worked.
There are of course different types of valves on those casks

Thank you Franco for posting that. I managed to pop my valve out and put it back in. Right now I've washed the bladder and have it hang drying with the valve out. Next thing to do is make a silnylon bag and strap for it. Maybe one day I'll get finished with all my gear???? Then, I'll decide to make something else;-)

I use one, too. I found the best way to get that nasty wine scent out (multiple washings didn't work), is to put some flavored drink in there like Gatorade. They work well as showers, too.

Another weapon against the nasty wine scent is bleach and hot water.
