I just wanted to pitch this and I know it's a bit last-min. I've been considering an end-end ski of pictured rocks, wasn't sure which weekend. I have Jan 10-12 available. Given demands of life, family, wife work schedule I am quite limited on weekends, so I can flex a little, maybe Feb 7-9 big emphasis maybe.
I 'd be fine solo, but wanted to meet/adventure with some other Midwesterners who frequent this forum and my backyard play areas as well. My preferred travel is BC ski. You could use track skis and do fine as well. Snowshoers would simply not be able to keep up, the pace being drastically different. If you are coming thru Mqt you may be able to rent/purchase a BC ski setup from a used shop called Switchback here in town.
That said, I'd cover approx 15 miles per day, but can be flexible given group dynamics/goals, time, etc. maybe explore some off-trail areas mentioned in Michael Neiger's guidebook such as Grottos, caves, cliffs, etc. (Google it, pretty neat guide). If someone joins it simplifies logistics of running a vehicle to Grand Marais via the Seney stretch, as H58 is closed in winter (east half).
Throw out your interest and we can talk further logistics.
