I am looking at the Cirriform Tarp to use with my bivy. Any on have feedback? Good, Bad, ugly etc.

Looks like a great tarp for use with bivy but have never seen any feedback on this tarp.

I used the cuben Cirraform with a Borah bivy on my JMT hike this year, I love it. I had originally bought a Hexamid long for the trip but while waiting for it to be made I received the Cirraform as a gift from my wife. It does everything that a good tarp should and the build quality is pretty amazing. It is right on par with nth my Zpacks and HMG stuff. I am 6 ft 5 and just use the regular tarp, I know that Gen will make them longer if you have time to order them, but I had no challenges. I got stuck in some crazy weather while on the trail and stayed dry and comfy feel free to shoot me a PM with any direct questions and I will try to help

This is a timely post for me. I'm interested in a new tarp to accompany my '2014 year of the bivy challenge'.

I've lightly researched Yama and don't know much about the company's products. However, I like the look of the Cirriform tarp. Appears to provide great 360 degree protection. It always comes down to whether I'm willing to spend the extra $ for cuben. I am curious to try the material in one of my shelters. Maybe if I can find a used one …

I have one in silnylon and love it. It provides very good protection and the sagging that I've experienced with other silnylon tarps was very minimal with this one due to the cut. I used it extensively last season and don't plan on getting another tarp/shelter for a while.

I pair it with a bug shelter (in the style of the yama ones) or a superlight bivy (although I'm trying this pairing out for the first time this feb in texas).

I used the Cirriform tarp all last summer, 250+ miles along PCT. I had Gen add four inches in length. The craftsmanship was top notch and Gen was great to work with.

What I liked (a lot):
-Cuben doesn't absorb water, unlike silnylon, important here in the PNW
-the zippered front door; open it to the views you worked so hard to hike to
-lightweight, svelte, narrow footprint which helps when you camp in places just off the trail
-admittedly, I like the white cuben
-pairs great with Gen's 1.25 bug shelter for a versatile system

Overall, in my opinion, this tarp is perfect for long distance hiking. I sold mine to get something a little more spacious for when I hike with my wife, but in truth, I know I'll regret it. Damn cuben price tag. Wish I could have kept it

Hope it helps

What is the real world weight of the Cirraform? Curious as this will probably replace my Cuben Lair which weighs about 9oz.

My was 9.9 oz with Lawson's glowire guylines in cuben stuff sack.

Too many awesome UL shelters … My head hurts … As will my wallet at some point in the near future.

If I recall I bought Whalen's cirriform and absolutely love it. The extra length is a nice luxury even though at 6'1 I don't really need it. It's a small weight penalty for extra luxury.

Get the Cuben and don't look back!

I have the cuben cirriform tarp which I love. It replaced my GG spinntwinn because I wanted something comparable in weight, but with front and rear beaks and a smaller footprint (the zipper on the front beak is a great feature as well). The cirriform checks all those boxes, plus it is just a great looking tarp. Mine was 11.6 ounces in the stuff sack with Kelty Triptease guylines and 8 Ti stakes. I say "was" because I sent it to Gen to have him convert it to a single wall tent using ALL no-seeum. I'm thinking that will add about 6 ounces to it. I will use a cuben bathtub ground sheet with it (inside above the mesh) that is 3 ounces. The entire set-up should be right around 20 ounces (including stakes, and will give me the flexibility to use the groundsheet apart from the shelter. I generally cowboy camp, and only use a shelter in buggy or stormy conditions.
