Torso Pad for my 6″3″ 220lb Frame?

I am 6'3'' 196 lbs and I use a Prolite 3 short pad with no issues.

For me, the choices vary depending on whether I want comfort or just insulation. I usually choose comfort.

I'm 6'4" with a long torso, and I find a 36" to 42" pad is perfect. A 30" pad is too short.

And as a large framed guy, I find 20" is pretty much minimum width for shoulders and hips. The 17" shoulders and 12" hips of the BMW TorsoLite are too narrow.

I have a closed cell 3/4-length Gossamer Gear NightLight that I cut down to 40" that works okay, but it's less comfortable than I like. The torso-length GG NightLight pad only measures 30" long, but comes scored for folding. You could maybe add another 10" section cut from another Nightlight to get to 40" length.

For self inflaters, I've been considering the MontBell 90 that measures 35" long and 20" wide, but only 1" thick. However, I've grown very accustomed to the comfort of a 1.5" pad like my 48" long REI Lite-Core 1.5 Short. Wish Montbell would make a 1.5" thick Pad 90.

I made the move to the GG torso nightlite from a z-lite and find it very accomodating. At 30" long, it goes from my shoulder to my hips comfortably (I'm 6'3"). I know others have said it to be too short, but I just put my platy under my head and my pack under my legs. At $18 and 3.15oz (that's what mine comes in at) you can't go wrong.

I'm 6'-5" about 195 lbs, and I use a Thermarest Pro-lite 4 short. I also use a short piece of a cheap Wally World blue foam pad for my legs.

I guess that I assumed by 'torso pad' that you meant something shorter than the 48 inch pads (often called 3/4 length), which will go all the way down to most people's lower thigh or knees?

There just aren't a lot of choices currently. I would love BMW to make a slightly large version of their TorsoLite, but I believe that POE (contract manufacturer?) already has a pretty complete line. All the same, I would like to see BMW make a 40 inch long pad with 20 inch wide top section (for your shoulders) that remains at that width for a distance of 10 inches along its length. Then, have the pad taper to a width of 16 inches at its base.

Another closed cell option would be to cut two sections (10 inches) off of a Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Short to give you a 37 inch long pad. I personally don't like the bulk of these, but they have a decent R-value and moderate comfort.
