I've used two or three types of reflective cord for tarp guylines. However, most of them are about the same diameter and weight.

Can anybody suggest some that is thinner and lighter than normal?

In non-reflective cords, in the past I've used white, yellow, or orange cord (for visibility) by Atwood Rope Mfg. They call it Micro Cord and have spools labeled as 1.8mm 125ft. I measured it, and it seems thinner than 1.2mm. If this stuff had a reflective streak, it would be great.

Here is a review on Picharpak 1.1mm Dyneema Line with Reflective Tracer.

It does not appear as though the 1.1mm line is in stock. Only the 1.5mm line now.

I saw that. A good sign possibly. Maybe shoot them an email and ask when they will be back in stock?

"A good sign possibly. Maybe shoot them an email and ask when they will be back in stock?"

How can this possibly be a good sign?

The vendor is based in Hong Kong, yet has its legal text pertaining to the State of Maine. The "About Us" page is blank.

It can be a good sign when something is sold out. Means high demand, good reputation, word of mouth, ect… A lot of my favorite backpacking gear was hard to come by at one point or another because of supply and demand levels.

"Means high demand, good reputation, word of mouth, ect."

No, actually it doesn't mean any of those things at all.

If there was high demand, then the vendor management should have been on top of this to have stocks replenished before they ran out.

It might mean that there was very low demand, so they decided not to replenish.

Good reputation could be debated.

Judging by the editing on the web site, it is a one-person operation.

But nothing can beat Lawson's Glowire. It is insanely bright, in the day or at night with reflected light (speaking of the blaze orange, but green looks plenty bright as well. Black also available for more day time stealth). The difference between Glowire and Kelty Triptease and the like is day and night. Plus, made in the US

My present plan is to use a 1.1mm cord that is bright but nonreflective. Then, for night visibility, I have coated the tops of my tent stakes with luminous tape or luminous paint (strontium aluminate = yellow glow in the dark). A reflective cord is nice, but you have to have a light shining toward it for it to be visible. The thicker cords are nice, but too heavy.

My goal is to reduce my baseweight by one pound every year, so I need to be gnawing away at every ounce that I can.

When he reaches 0 he is on the long march up Bunyan's trail to the pearly gates – or will he choose the 'easier' option?

the 1.1mm is back in-stock, the delivery was eta in end of Dec13, due to the loft issue it was delay until 2 weeks ago before i can receive it.

the 1.1mm with reflective strap i have send many enquires to rope manufactures at least 3 from USA and 1 from Germany non of them are able to produce, they say it is too thin to woven the refl strap into the sleeving. luckily after a year later from my career i met up a supplier and he introduce me to a small loft that produce all hi-end ropes and this loft say they can make it! thats how the 1.1mm reflective rope born.

Comparison between Kelty Triptease line on the left, 1.25mm Zline from zpacks in the middle, and the 1.1mm "Dyneema Rope with reflective strap" on the right.

I received 20 m of the 1.1 mm and 10m of the 1.5 mm reflective dyneema line from Picharpak today. My initial impressions are, well, impressed. I'm excited to change out my guylines and see how it performs. Pictures or it didn't happen….Dyneema

I will say that the cord from Picharpak has much more texture, roughness if you will, than the z-packs line. So I see it working great for pitching lines for tarps, but not as good for drawstring line for stuff sacks, as it might abraid the hem. But it will sure hold some friction knots!

for bumping this thread. I had no idea there was reflective cord available in this small of a diameter. I do believe I will be ordering some.
