Whither the 8×8 spinnaker/cuben ‘mid?

I think Gossamer Gear has talked about producing a similar product (fully enclosed cuben tarp tent) as well. They are all a bunch of teasers :)

If one of these fine folk introduce a Cuben 'Mid, it will be shockingly expensive.
But dam-n the torpedos, full speed ahead, anyway.
I'm going to bug the bejezus out them all after this season (everyone is too busy at the moment just doing stock stuff) in hopes of prying one out of them in time for next year.

Brian, I asked Ron about this some months ago. He does plan to design a 2-person fully-enclosed shelter at some point, though I'm not sure when. This is peak seaon for MLD, so I doubt we'll see a new shelter in the near future. Ron has been toying with a couple of possible designs. The optimal design may depend upon things like expected snow and wind loads, so you might consider emailing Ron with some info about the conditions you encounter in BC.

That's great to know. I remember that MLD hinted at an 8×8 mid right after their site redesign — I guess they got busy selling all their other amazing products.

I don't mean to say that BC is some kind of a torture test for gear — it's just that we need to carry true 3-season gear that can handle windy sub-freezing nights and the odd snowstorm, even in the summer. (i.e. 6 x 6 inch cuben tarps suspended from fishing line need not apply.) Hence my interest in a pyramid tarp.

There wouldn't be any weather in (3-season-) BC that wouldn't be handled by that beautiful Arctic 1000 8×8 Cuben mid that's been on the OWare site for awhile. If only!

Aah well.. there's always the 2008 season. It'll fit better in the budget then anyway!

Sounds suspiciously like Ryan’s Arctic 1000 shelter may have made it to market. Now if only Roman an Jason’s shelter would follow…
