The New FireLite 500 Ti Cookpot

I too received my pot today, although it was the 550 model without a handle. As like Ben, below are some hastily taken comparison pictures.

Oberservation:

1) Lid fits as tight or tighter than Evernew 0.9L pot.
2) Mine weighed in at an ASTONISHING 1.8 oz. with lid.

Yes, the weight of the 500 is running below spec. (52 g.—1.84 oz.). The thinnest Ti-ware I've ever seen. Even so, it will be a lot more durable than a Foster's can/pot.

heh, funny you mention the Foster's can/pot. it is exactly what I am replacing.

Anyone use the 500 pot with a White Box Stove?

I would love to know this as well, i just ordered a white box stove and a Firelite 500 SUL Cookpot but I wonder how they will work together.

No direct experience with the White Box stove, but just looking at the photo and reading the specs… matching a small and narrow Firelite 500 pot with a high-output, side-burning White Box stove will be very suboptimal! You can expect much of the heat to go up around the pot and be wasted.

Quoting from Gossamer Gear's product page: "Finally, since this stove is a side burner it works best with a wider bottom pot like the Titan Kettle and is also ideal when cooking for more than one person".

For narrow pots, stoves with a more inwardly focused flame will be a better match.

well i intended the white box stove to match with the MSR Titan Kettle as a two person alcohol stove set up.
I already thought the firelite would be on the small side for the white box.

any suggestions for a fast performing alcohol stove which would match the firelite 500?

I have been using a mini zen made from red bull cans, the flames come out to the same width as the base of the pot and it is working really well for me, plus you don't need a pot stand.

I own the SUL-500 pot. I've used a Jim Woods SuperCat stove with it, and while the flame spread is a bit broad for some reason it boils water really fast as long as you use a windscreen…not the perfect visual fit of flame width to pot width, but the performance is still phenomenal.

I also bought the AGG Caldera Cone with its 12-10 stove and I've found it to be a winning combo…not faster with boiling times but much more efficient in terms of fuel usage. Trail Designs (and George at AGG, who knew a good thing when he saw it) should be commended for a simple and super-effective design.

Ben, you want me to bring a White Box stove next week, for you to play with? They have been a huge seller on my website :-)

I have used the Titan kettle with a White Box, with no issues as well.

Just jabbing at you. Superfast performance usually means pressurized flame that shoot out fast and furious. Sure, you can still get fast performance even with a narrow pot — but it's not optimal and you end up wasting fuel.

For me, I love simplicity, compactness, and light weight. I am just not in that much of a hurry, and I prefer a more efficient stove — and for my small and narrow pot — that means a non-pressureized stove with a flame that is confined (more or less) to the diameter of the pot bottom. My stove is just something I made myself using an empty catfood can. If you want a "store bought" stove, take a look at MiniBullDesign's Elite #2 stove.

Yep, I gots one too. Its a perfect match for my little Vargo Ti. Stove, that I had given up on, and was collecting dust.

I'll probably pick-up a Firelite winged stove too, but I'm not crazy about the residue, from the solid fuel tablets.

The Vargo stove nests nicely inside the firelite pot too, where as the firelite winged stove would also nest inside this pot, but you probably wouldn't want too, as the residue left over, would get inside your pot.

I may end-up sticking with an alcohol stove, like the Vargo Ti?

Has anyone been able to fit a canister stove inside of the 500 or is it just too tight of a fit?

Optimus Crux, Snow Peak Giga-Power and Primus Micron all fit (actually you can get any two of the above in at the same time!), together with a folding spoon, lighter, etc.

A '100' gas cylinder will fit in, but doesn't leave enough room for the stove as well.
