I'm looking for people interested in doing a backpacking/packrafting trip in Wrangell St. Elias NP next year, late August and early September. I have extensive backcountry experience but limited packrafting experience. I expect to be able to handle whitewater by the time I'm out there, as I will receive professional training and will take several trips before. I'll be on the American River regularly up until then. And I'll have a life vest and can swim if all else fails.

I'm looking for someone who is willing to share the cost of a bush flight. I am considering doing the Goat Trail and then floating the Chitistone and Nizina but am definitely open to other options.

Interested? Drop me a line at brad.branan@gmail.com

I doubt I'll go through Nabesna, unless I try that epic trip from there to McCarthy. I believe Ellis directed me to the lodge at the end of the Nabesna Road, as they do flights. If do the Goat, or some other route on the southern end, I was looking at Wrangell Mountain Air, though there's got to be less expensive though safe options.

Any recommendations?

Mike (Refrigerator) over at Backpacker (not the magazine one) has done a number of trips using Ellis, I was up there about 3 years ago now, we landed close to the glaicer. Got a few pics of the Hulk. We hiked down, then got picked up.

We paid $100 deposit, then I believe balance of $400 upon arrival.

Brad
I live in the bay area and have a packraft. Lets get out on some rivers this winter and spring. I know a couple of other folks with packrafts that like to get out.
shoot me a pm

Brad & Morgan,

I would be interested to join packrafters here in the Bay Area for trips this winter and spring. We have three packrafts in our family and any number of us might come along.

Just shoot me a PM when you are planning something.
