Based on the last few pieces I've picked up for my girlfriend (including r1 hoody) there's a noticeable hourglass cut to the Patagonia tops. How noticeable probably depends on your body type, for me the flair out at the hips was too much.

I've got women's R1s in M and L, and while they are slightly wider in the hips, it seems less so than I'd like and less than in other gear. I actually had to check the tag on first one to make sure it was a women's version. Maybe I need to hike more, eat less…

I've been considering buying a women's XL R1 as well, but am concerned about the difference in cuts and fit. Most Patagonia stuff in medium fits me perfectly. Care to report back when it shows up Adam?

FWIW I took some measurements of a women's R1 hoody XL fall '12 (which came from 6pm recently).

Center back length 28 in
Sleeve length from center back 35 in ( includes 3 in cuff with thumb hole).
Width at armpit seam 22 in
Width at midriff 20 in
Width at hem 23 in

the R1 fit me perfectly everywhere but the upper chest and hip area. it will be returned. there is a noticeable outward flair to the bottom hem that allows a lot of heat to escape on my straight manly figure.

That's what I was afraid of. I had tried on a women's Cap 4 and noticed the same issues, but was hoping it was less pronounced on the R1. Oh well. Thanks Adam.
