I have been using a shelter system consisting of a MLD Cuben Fiber Patrol Shelter and Serenity Shelter. This has worked very well for several years, however, I am trying to lighten my load a bit. I am thinking about getting a Zpacks CF ground cloth and using it under the Patrol Shelter. It is only about an ounce heavier than a polycryo ground sheet and the 5" bath tub sides should work better in foul weather and may even break a little wind.

Has anyone tried this ground cloth with a non Zpacks shelter (where it doesn't get attached) and how has it worked. Are stakes required, etc.

Thanks in advance.

I use the solo groundsheet in my LG Khufu with pretty good success. I loosely attach a Zpacks elastic cord around the pole supporting the mid, and sometimes attach the corners to the corners of the khufu tie out points if I'm on a slight angle. Stays put pretty well and I also use a hexamid solo so it wasn't a gamble for me to try it out in a different shelter. The cuben for the bathtub has pretty good structural resistance and holds it shape well even without being fastened to anything, which I've found to be a pretty nice attribute.

I've been looking very long at the zpacks bathtub floor for my Khufu. How is the sizing inside the Khufu if I may ask? Ever wanted to have a bigger size, I'm on the edge length wise in my Khufu. Does the bathtub floor have space left over to make it longer or would you say length wise it's good to go?

I really feel I should just make soemthing myself though.. Unfortunately have no sewing machine but it should be a relatively easy project..

I had the poncho groundsheet and it was pretty awesome. It really keeps everything neat and dry. Just make sure water isnt pouring into it because then it will really become a bathtub.

Ito, I think it's a great fit in the Khufu, both width wise and in length. I'm 6'3" and have never found the groundsheet to be too short. The shelter is close, but I typically pitch it a few inches off of the ground to alleviate this and to provide a little extra ventilation. Having the shelter pitched off the ground a bit provides nice tie off points for the bathtub floor. If the shelter's pitched to the ground, I usually don't bother and just let the floor "float" inside.

Big fan of the groundsheets though, I use my bivy a hand full of times during the bug season and use the groundsheet with a tarp for every other trip. Solo size (for me) is wide enough to keep my quilt from flailing in to the dirt, which is also nice. I'm primarily a side sleeper though so have never really felt confined in the smaller shelters.

Well that is a very similar set up then. I'm 184cm (≈6.1) and side sleeper under a quilt as well. Thinking of the bathtub with a light bug net I have for when bivy use would be too hot here.
Thanks for the comments.

Matt,

Thanks for the feedback. I think I am going to give it a try.
