Over the years of accumulating camping gear, it is always a great day when someone finds a deal that even store employees overlook, especially when one isn't really looking for anything. So the other day, the wife & I were in the nearby REI and I was totally surprised by this find:

REI deal
They even took an additional 10 percent off!
Having worked at that store for a number of years, 80 percent off of anything in there (other than attic items) is pretty amazing. It's nice to know REI slashes prices that way (and I can live to tell about it.)

I just felt so excited & just wanted to share with my backpacking friends!

Any stories to share out there?

Not as great as that but I picked up a down sweater from Eddie Bauer last year for $25. It's 550 fill so I'm surprised that they advertise it at that low of a level. Turns out that the sweater functions great, is very warm, and for the times where I don't have to sleep with it on, it makes a great pillow since the 550 fill isn't the best for compression.

At some point I'll buy the Mont Bell EX Light to save 1/2 a pound and use this one for around town but in the meantime, it's great.
