Hi,

I'm going to hike Walker's Haute Route in Swiss alps in July/August.
In valleys there maybe hot. In mountains there maybe very cold.

I'm searching for suggestions for clothes layering options. Thought of thermal tops and bottoms, fleece jacket, rain/wind pants & jacket. In addition I'll take my very light running nike dri-fit shirts and even lighter saucony t-shirt for valley walks. I want to find a really light options. Regarding rain pants/jacket, I consider Zpacks rain pants and jacket made of breathable cuben fiber. However this seems not cheap. I'd like to save some bucks if I find lightweight options of more common rain gear. Breathability is important.

I'm planning to pitch a tent next to huts on my way (with owner's permission of course). I think it is better to bring a quilt, because it is more versatile with the temperature range I'll have there. Which temp rating is appropriate, in your opinion?

Thank you!

Regards, Greg.

Hi Gregory,

I just came upon your post. I will be doing the walker's Haute Route in early August. I have a general idea of what clothes to pack, but I'm struggling with the sleeping bag option. I have a Montbell Hugger #4 which is light, but is only rated to 35 degrees. I could opt to take my 20 degree bag, but would rather go with the Montbell. I was wondering if you had gotten any information about what sleeping bag to bring. By the way, I too plan to camp as much as possible and avoid sleeping in the huts.

Perhaps our paths will cross in the Alps.

Best!
